What is greenwashing and how to avoid it

Hey there fashion lovers,

Are you familiar with the term "greenwashing" and how it impacts the fashion industry?

As consumers, we have the power to make informed choices and support brands that prioritize sustainability. At And For Good, we're committed to promoting eco-friendly fashion and avoiding greenwashing tactics.
Don’t worry, we'll explain what greenwashing is, and how you can avoid it.

Greenwashing is when a company claims to be environmentally friendly without taking significant action to reduce their impact on the planet. It might involve using vague or ambiguous language, such as using terms like "natural" or "organic" without providing any evidence to support these claims. It could also involve using eco-friendly imagery or packaging, without actually changing the production process or materials used in the products themselves.
As a consumer, it's essential to do your research and look for specific evidence to support any eco-friendly claims made by a brand.

At And For Good, we believe in transparency and ethical practices. We are committed to reducing our environmental impact by using eco-friendly materials, such as Recycled Polyester, Organic Cotton, and Tencel, check out our Re/Good Collection! We also partner with manufacturers that share our values, ensuring that our products are ethically made with fair labor practices.

When shopping for eco-friendly  fashion, it's important to look beyond the marketing claims and seek transparency. Here are some tips to avoid greenwashing:

Check the production process - Look for information about the production process, such as the materials used, the manufacturing location, and the waste reduction initiatives.
Read reviews - Look for feedback from other consumers to see if a brand's claims match their actual practices.
Do your research - Look for evidence to support any claims made by a brand, including third-party certifications like the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) or the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC).

Details matter - look for exact figures, facts, ingredients and manufacturing characteristics.
By supporting brands like And For Good that are committed to transparency and sustainability, you can make a difference in creating a more eco-friendly fashion industry. Together, we can promote ethical and sustainable fashion and reduce our impact on the planet.
Why does it matter why I buy? Being discerning in which brands you support with your purchases is called ‘voting with your wallet’. When consumers enmasse choose to purchase items that are ethical and sustainable over products that are not it makes a difference to the entire industry's practices. As a result of consumer purchases, companies are then forced to become legitimately more ethical and sustainable in order to continue profitably and attract customers. Yay look at you ‘doing good’ while shopping and looking fabulous!
