Ikat Technique

Ikat is a weaving technique that produces one-of-a-kind fabrics. Ours are hand-woven in India by local artisans. Our Ikat fabric is soft and gets softer after wearing and washing.

This labor-intensive process results in one-of-a-kind pieces that celebrate heritage, craftsmanship, and timeless beauty.

  • The process of creating Ikat fabric begins with the intricate art of dyeing the threads before they are woven. Artisans meticulously plan the pattern, marking the warp or weft threads that are then tightly bound with a resist material, like wax or string, to prevent the dye from penetrating certain areas. The threads are dyed in stages, untying and retying sections to achieve multiple colors. Once the dyeing is complete, the threads are carefully aligned on the loom to ensure the pre-dyed patterns come together seamlessly during weaving. The fabric is then handwoven with each pass of the shuttle bringing the design to life through the interplay of the dyed threads. After weaving, the Ikat fabric is inspected, softened, and crafted into garments that showcase its rich, blurred-edge patterns. No two garments are alike.
